UPDATED: Court denies request to block Philadelphia’s Wage Equity Ordinance

A federal judge dismissed a suit from the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia that sought to block a Philadelphia city ordinance that will prohibit employers from asking about a prospective worker’s salary history.
The chamber claimed the ordinance – which was signed into law in January – violated the First Amendment rights of employers and was bad for business.
Ultimately, the court ruled the chamber had no standing to bring the suit because it did not “identify a member who will suffer specific harm as a result of the ordinance.”
The chamber still has until June 13 to submit an amended complaint.

The Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia submitted their amended complaint on Tuesday, June 13, renewing their challenge to the city's wage ordinance.
“The amended complaint fully addresses the issues identified in Judge Goldberg’s order and makes clear that the chamber has standing to challenge the ordinance,” the group said in a statement.
