USCIS Automatically Extends Green Card Validity for Naturalization Applicants
Effective December 12, 2022, lawful permanent residents who properly file Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, will receive an automatic extension of their Permanent Resident Card (commonly known as a Green Card) for two years.
This extension type was passed to ease the stress on naturalization applicants facing long processing times and whose Permanent Resident Card have expired.
The two-year extension language will be visible on Form N-400 receipt notices. These receipt notices may be presented with an expired Green Card as a List A document on the Form I-9, proving identity and employment authorization.
Please note that this extension will only apply to applicants who filed their Form N-400 on or after December 12, 2022.
