TPS Syria Beneficiary EADs Extended Through September 24, 2022
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is issuing individual notices to impacted Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Syria beneficiaries.
Due to a small number of pending re-registrations and the redesignation of Syria for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), the USCIS is automatically extending Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) for these individuals through September 24, 2022.
The current employment authorization documents (EADs) will bear a category of A12 or C19, and an expiration date of either March 31, 2021; September 30, 2019; or March 31, 2018.
What do I need to do as an employer to complete the Form I-9 or E-Verify for a TPS Syria beneficiary?
These individuals may present an EAD with the category code and expiration date listed above along with the individual notice mailed by USCIS, extending their EAD through September 24, 2022. Employers must enter September 24, 2022 as the new expiration date in Section 2 of the Form I-9 under List A. They must also reverify these employees before the start work on September 25, 2022. An E-Verify case can be created using the EAD document number and extended expiration date.
